The Stool Project
Drawing and painting has been a central part of my creative process for years. Through these mediums I take in, digest, and express what is experienced, observed, or considered.
The quality of doing so has been the result, rather so it lies in the process itself. Process is the primary, the component that carries presence, meaning, intent - the art. The result is a mere destination of the process. Yet, people tend to relate to the result. It is the tangible and concrete materialisation of an idea, but detached from the initial form intended with the idea. Therefore, it is indiscriminate in its judgement of whether idea and result can be compared and add up.
In 2022 I began painting on stools. Initially to physically warp the rigid form of paper or canvas, but eventually as a way of connected the artistic vision of the work with the utilitarian nature of everyday objects. The project so far counts 12 works, and is slated to continue until 25 individual works have been produced. As the count goes up, the form of the stool becomes subject of exploration with new works seeking to yet again redefine the form of the canvas.
